As soon as I got there, she showed me a magazine that has all sorts of sofa beds in them. I was excited because they were better than the ones I had seen online. I love dining and entertaining in the outdoors. I have recently purchased two outdoor pub tables for my backyard eating area and I love them. When the weather is nice, eating outside can be such an enjoyable experience. It is much better than sitting inside a stuffy house. Even when my husband and I go out to a restaurant to eat, I always ask if there are any tables available outside. There is something about being out in the fresh air that makes the meal more pleasant. Friends and family seem to enjoy spending time outdoors as well. Whether we are having a casual family barbeque, an intimate dinner for two or a special get together with a few of our closest friends, we always opt for the outdoor eating area. I do not understand why bathroom mats are so expensive. They’re just there to make sure you’re feet are dry when you step out of the shower so you don’t slip. They’re there to make sure you don’t have to negotiate with the freezing merciless bathroom tiles that might give you such a shock it makes you jump right back in the shower like a little girl. Come to think of it, bathroom mats are quite useful. But that doesn’t change the fact that they’re expensive. What makes some bathroom mats more expensive than others? Are they made of gold and leprechaun glitter? Do some bathroom mats come with an awesome party gorilla that lightens up the mood each time you pop out the bubble bath? We will probably never know, but one thing’s for certain: I’m getting my own bathroom mat. I hope it comes with a surprise inside.

My parents were coming for their first visit to our apartment since we had got married, and to say I was nervous was an under statement. I wanted everything to be perfect. I had been working over the last six months to get the apartment perfect. I wanted to show them that I was a great wife and homemaker. My parents were definitely old school, where the man went out and made the money and the wife stayed home, to raise the kids. This is what I wanted too, but it wasnt going to happen right away. We had only been married for six months and we were still getting use to each other and still learning about each other. But we were so excited about their visit, we had recently bought some new furniture for the guest room and painted the walls and truly made the guest room something comfy. My husband always jokes you don’t want the guest room to comfy or the guests never leave. But being so far away from my family was hard on me so I was really looking forward to just spending quality time with them. One day I was looking at the carpet and thought I really wanted to get it cleaned before they got here. Last month our handyman installed Lutron lighting controls in our dining room and kitchen. Having dimmers on the light switches is something that I don’t think about too often, but having it installed for our Savoy House Lighting, I can’t imagine NOT having it now. Before we had the dimmers, we would unscrew some of the light bulbs when we had guest over for dinner or wanted to have a romantic evening. It’s amazing how the mood changes with dimmer lights – it feels more calming and relaxed, and as an added bonus, it makes me look younger. Why didn’t we do this sooner?
Adding lighting controls is actually not as difficult as most would think. However, I shouldn’t say that because we ended up hiring someone to do it for us. I certainly don’t want to deal with anything electrical so it just made sense under the circumstances. Although, I did read about it all online and it seemed like we could have done it quite easily. Basically, you unscrew the cover plate, hook some wires with some other wires, place safety caps over any exposed wires, screw the cover plate back on, and you got yourself some mood lighting. Simple, but I wouldn’t recommend you going by my vague directions. You can find some great tutorials online.
With all this mood lighting talk, I forgot to mention one great factor of having a dimmer switch installed: it is actually energy-efficient. Unscrewing the bulbs on your chandelier would be equivalent to dimming the lights and using half the electricity. But no burning your hands on the hot bulbs and climbing on top of the table. One easy switch on your dimmer and the ambiance is set for the evening. It was totally worth the tiny investment we made to install them.
